Help people find their voice

Megaphone’s Community Writing Workshop project began in 2009 at the treatment centre above Vancouver’s safe injection site. We started it as a way to give people a tool in their recovery and, hopefully, get their stories published in Megaphone. We never imagined it would take off the way it has.

“I never used to write; never quite knew how,” says Sarah Oulette. “After learning all kinds of writing styles, I find myself now releasing myself through a simple pen and paper. To someone like me, having extra outlets is the very key to learning to live over again. I love attending Megaphone’s writing group.”

Megaphone now runs eight writing workshops (including one for our vendors) in the Downtown Eastside and downtown Vancouver. Through these workshops we have published powerful stories in the magazine about surviving abuse, overcoming addiction and gangs, and poems about First Nations community and culture.

But in order for us to be able to keep supporting these writers, we need your help. Megaphone needs to raise $5,000 this spring to keep the writing workshop program running.

Your donation will help pay for:

Writing Material
Printing and publishing costs
Stipends for marginalized writers
Program costs

Please make a donation of $25, $50, $75 or $100 to Megaphone today! With your help, we can continue to help our writers find their voice.

Sincerely,

Sean Condon
